Fall Semester: 1st six weeks, Week 1 (2012)

Photo I:
This week in photo I we are talking about the History of photography in class. First we are going to get started right away in the darkroom making Rayograms/Photogarms.
Next week we will be building pinhole cameras and working with them.

Here are some examples of photograms:

Photo II & III
In advanced photography we are going to discuss the importance of color calibration and everyone will be assigned a computer to calibrate. We are going to begin the year discussing the most important aspect of photography in my opinion, controlling light.

Our first in class assignment is to make Monotone Gum Prints. All negatives and prints will be made in class.

First Assignment:

Part A.
Sign up for the Art Awards if you have not done so. You will need you social security number.

Part B.
Your first shooting assignment will be 35 assignment in 1. You are to take photos that represent the entire alphabet A-Z and the numbers 1-9. You must capture the letter in the photograph and it must occur naturally. You cannot take pictures of graphic text or any sort of lettering on signs and so forth. You may not manipulate the area where you take you images. I just want you to find the letter occurring naturally. Example (perhaps tree branches shot from a certain angel look like an A, metal pipes from a certain position look like and L, and a man hole cover with a stick or leaf on it looks like a Q, etc...) This assignment will be due Thursday by the end of class. All images should be saved into your folder on the Drobo server.
